A different perspective of the Marine Corps War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
A while back, I used to run a route that had the memorial as my halfway turn-around point. If I was on pace, right around the time I'd be coming up on the memorial, the song "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd would start playing on my running playlist. It was always pretty meaningful to me in that I figured the heroes immortalized at the memorial were once themselves just simple men who'd answered the call to be warriors.
